I’ve arrived late last night from Fort Lauderdale. It was a scary drive to the hotel. From what I’ve read, there are posers in relation to the Taxi drivers, that aren’t real taxi drivers, but then again, it wasn’t as though they’d kidnap me, but rather charge more than would normally be charged. Then there were the stories of hold ups or diversions and they steal your bags from the cars. Then there was the fact that the driver was taking me through the back streets and so I was starting to freak out a little bit, but all is well it seems.
Green Taxi was the company I went with. There was the “Official Taxi” company, which clearly is named that way to throw people off. They even said, the ones outside aren’t “official”, which I mean, is actually correct in their sense. Very tricky.
I booked myself into a hotel for last night and tonight so I could actually get some rest. Its actually been quite nice. I snoozed this morning (from 5 am until 9 am) and then slowly headed out the door to check out Miraflores. Its actually quite a safe region. There are security guards everywhere, as well as police everywhere. There are also parking attendants who manage your street parking tickets, traffic controllers, and bus stop controllers as well. I found it very comfortable walking around with my backpack on. I spent many hours sitting at cafes which has been nice.
Tomorrow I’ve booked myself on this tour: Lima Gourmet Company which I’m super excited about. I think it’ll be good to get a tour, but also be able to eat non gringo food. As much as I can try to eat authentic, it just isn’t the same. I’ll write again tomorrow about how it actually went!
Until then, Happy Halloween – there are plenty of kids out and about here in costume trick or treating!
